Dr. George M. Hood, chairman of Jasper County Council, was born in Warrenton, North Carolina. His early education was in the public schools of Warren County.

Dr. Hood’s education includes the following degrees:
B.S Degree in Elementary Education from Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville, North Carolina 1964
M.S. Degree in Education from South Carolina State College, Orangeburg, South Carolina 1971
M.A. Degree in School Administration from North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina 1980
Ed.S Degree in School Administration from East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina 1980
Ed.D Degree in School Administration from Nova University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 1984

Dr. Hood is married to the former Emily Walters of Salters, South Carolina. They have been blessed with two daughters, Annice Florelda and Valeda Laurett. Annice is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and services as a Principal in the Wake County Public Schools in Raleigh, North Carolina. Valeda is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is pursuing a career in Performing Arts in the New York City.
